Questions we’re often asked

Do you work with all breeds and ages of dogs?

Absolutely. CLEAR works with dogs of all breeds and ages, from young puppies to older dogs needing help with manners, reactivity, over-excitement or everyday behaviour problems.

These days, a large proportion of our clients have oodles of every description, but we’re equally happy working with everything from tiny toy breeds to large, energetic working dogs.

What areas do you cover?

CLEAR is based in Wynnum–Manly and services surrounding suburbs within approximately 15 km, including Wynnum West, Manly West, Lota, Hemmant, Tingalpa, Wakerley, Gumdale, Murarrie, Cannon Hill, Morningside, Carina, Carindale, Belmont, Chandler, Thorneside, Birkdale, Alexandra Hills and Capalaba.

We’re also happy to travel further afield by arrangement, with very reasonable additional travel and toll charges. If you’re unsure whether we cover your area, just ask!

How much will it cost?

Our popular Foundation Package is $250 for two one-hour sessions. We don’t offer a cheap introductory visit and then pressure you into an expensive ongoing program.

If you need more help after the Foundation Package, follow-up sessions in Wynnum–Manly are $80 for one hour.

A one-off single session, generally to work on a specific issue, is $150.

Full details are on our Fees & Packages page.

How many sessions will I need?

For most clients, we recommend our Foundation Package: two one-hour sessions a few weeks apart, giving you time to practise between visits.

The second session builds on the first, but we always start from where you’re at. Life sometimes gets in the way, and you may not have practised as much as planned. It’s not an exam! Sessions are relaxed, and we’re happy to revisit anything that isn’t working.

For one specific issue or an assessment, a single session may be enough.

Why do you specialise in in-home training?

Because it’s where most everyday behaviour problems happen! Training at home allows us to see how your dog behaves in familiar surroundings, understand your family’s routines and develop practical solutions that fit your everyday life.

It’s also a quieter environment for teaching new skills, without the distractions of a busy class. Once the basics are taking shape, we can gradually introduce real-world distractions, sometimes moving the second session to a quiet park.

Do you do puppy school?

We ran puppy classes many years ago but found individual in-home training much more effective. It gives owners one-on-one attention and allows us to concentrate on what matters most to them and their puppy, rather than following a set class program.

Many clients who have tried both tell us they’re surprised by how much they learn in a home-visit Foundation Package.

What age should we start training?

As soon as your puppy is home, settled in and eating well. You can also book before your puppy arrives, and we’re happy to offer advice to help you prepare for those important first few days.

When do you train?

Seven days a week, by appointment, with daytime and some early evening sessions available. Tell us which days and times suit you when you enquire.

How should I prepare for my session?

We’ll email you full details beforehand. Ideally, have your dog rested, a little hungry and ready to have fun, with plenty of tasty treats available and a list of your training priorities.

Can my family be there?

We love including children in relationship games wherever possible, but our sessions are fairly intensive, covering a lot of information in a short period of time, albeit in a relaxed and fun way. So if young children are likely to be a distraction, we suggest having a Plan B for at least part of the session.
