Walk & Train: an extra step when needed

Once you’re part of the CLEAR family, we’re still here if questions or issues crop up — with Caroline available by phone or email and affordable follow-up help when you need it.

Walk & Train is one of those options, available to existing clients around Wynnum–Manly. Young Stanley, the Oodle featured in this clip, shows just how much can be covered in a Walk & Train session.

Caroline was helping him walk nicely on lead, practise useful cues such as Let’s Go, This Way and Wait, and feel more comfortable around some of the sights and sounds he found worrying. Whenever Stanley noticed another person, dog or bicycle, Caroline marked it with “Yes” and followed with a treat.

The idea was simple: “That’s scary” becomes “That means treats. Yum. Happy.” That’s counter-conditioning — helping something worrying start to predict something good instead.

This was only Stanley’s second outing with Caroline, but he had already settled considerably and was working beautifully. In fact, a passer-by stopped to ask whether he was training to be an assistance dog. Not quite, Stanley — but we’ll take the compliment.

Stanley’s owners were so pleased with the progress that, when they later added a second dog to the family, they asked Caroline to do some Walk & Train sessions with their new arrival too.

For another dog, Walk & Train might focus on better lead manners, calmer behaviour around distractions, recall practice or simply more confidence out and about. The session is shaped around the dog in front of us.

Walk & Train is available to existing Foundation Package clients around Wynnum–Manly, along with private follow-up sessions and other training options.

Contact Caroline if you’d like to have a chat about what might suit your dog.
